Figure Drawing Terms and Favorite Sketches

When people talk about drawing from a model, certain terms are used. The term life model basically means an unclothed model. When the term costumed model is used, it generally means a portrait session and the model is clothed. It does not necessarily mean the model is in a costume in the usual sense ofContinue reading “Figure Drawing Terms and Favorite Sketches”

Pop Up Art Show from Figure Drawing Workshop

A few times a month I attend a figure drawing workshop in Columbia, PA. Columbia is one of Pennsylvania’s river towns and it also has a slightly industrial feel. Above (left) is the center of town and to the right is the view from the window of our workshop which is on the second floorContinue reading “Pop Up Art Show from Figure Drawing Workshop”

From Drawing Workshops

I attend a few drawing sessions on a fairly regular basis. I go with grand plans but always end up using the most basic materials (pencil, conte crayon, etc.) My favorite are the short pose workshops because I tend to have a short attention span. This model really intrigued me; especially his face. You canContinue reading “From Drawing Workshops”

New Collage & Drawing Workshop

Ok so this is an eclectic post but I figure I will fit these two in since they were both done this week. The portrait (see enlarged version below) is from a weekly figure drawing session. And the collage (also enlarged below) is in my one medium size collage sketchbook. Starting with the collage, well,Continue reading “New Collage & Drawing Workshop”

Cyanotype project

I never made a cyanotype before and always wanted to try it. Yesterday, I finally had the opportunity at an event hosted by Arts+, the community arts organization where I am on faculty. I choose a sprig of grass as my subject (What kind? Well, I do not even attempt to key grasses; you haveContinue reading “Cyanotype project”

Spontaneous Collages

Some weekends I have either no specific project in mind or am in the waiting mode regarding another project. This weekend I found myself in the waiting mode for a printing project to dry. It is so humid here that ink can take up to a week to dry, sometimes even longer, depending on howContinue reading “Spontaneous Collages”

Continuing the Rodin Project

My last post on this topic I talked about how it got started. I have enjoyed reading and looking at the images in this book but it is now time to return it to the library. What I have become absolutely compelled to do was recreate some of the photographic portraits in this book ofContinue reading “Continuing the Rodin Project”

Paper Exchange Collages

An online group through the Plastic Club, an historic artist club in Philadelphia, hosted a paper exchange. I received a pack of hand decorated papers as well as photographs. The idea was to use the papers to make collages. I used the papers in conjunction with things I made or saved. Here they are below.Continue reading “Paper Exchange Collages”

Paper Quilt Collages & Drawings Continues

As a quick recap, this little book (4″ x 6″) contains both paper collages and drawings. The collages were originally inspired by a workshop at the National Gallery of Art about the Gees Bend Quilt movement, though I have strayed a bit from that on some collages. In addition, I thought it would be funContinue reading “Paper Quilt Collages & Drawings Continues”
