Not long ago I mentioned that I like to sit and doodle. Many of my doodles recently have been these characters that I decided to call seed people. The thought of seeds kept coming into my mind – first from the word ‘Seed’ that I made during my lettering class then through a guided meditation I did that used the imagery of sowing seeds as a metaphor. Sometimes I give them bits of clothing accessories like ties or suspenders or hats but this group seems to be without such adornments. I am also thinking I need to make some seed houses for them. I made a pile of these but here are a few of the seed people below.

Note that the first and third images, shown below, are pretty similar. This is because I created the one with a sharpie and it bled through the page. Rather than wasting a page (being frugal as I am), I decided to use it as a challenge to see what I could make using the marks that bled through as a guide.

Hi Diane, love your new seed designs-the color and the comps are very pleasing. Being of a practical nature I will posit this possibility – that these seed creations can be applied to a number decorative household objects. Mainly, printed or painted on parchment or fiberglass, they could as various types of lamps. Hope you don’t think this minimizes their artistic status. They could be “seeds of inspiration “

Hi Sheldon, I always appreciate your insight and there is nothing wrong with decoration. Our homes would be so drab without it! XO

I super like these. I’d know these for your work anywhere. But a new innovation! I’m eager to see more.

Yo, these are so beautiful and whimsical! I can see the connection to your lettering class, and I also think of those marginal drawings in the illuminated manuscripts. Beyond all that they are pure Diane!

What fun seeds! Gives a new meaning to seed art (the MN State Fair has a seed art competition). There is so much going on in the seeds and for me at least just looking at them germinates ideas.

Thank you Michele. I think I have seen seed art before and I can see why people make art out of seeds. To me, the most interesting things on plants are the fruiting structures. They are often overlooked. Thanks for commenting!
